We are delighted to announce that this year’s annual David Whitebread Memorial Lecture will be taking place on Wednesday 21st June 2023!
Professor Iram Siraj from the Department of Education at the University of Oxford will deliver the lecture on “Improving teaching and learning in the early years: lessons to improve practice and child outcomes.”
Substantial research indicates that high-quality early childhood education and care (ECEC) is beneficial for children. However, the quality of ECEC is inconsistent. One reason for this is the variability of training and qualifications across the early years workforce. This lecture will discuss what can be done to improve professional development in early years settings. Attendees will learn about the Leadership for Learning professional development programme, which was shown, through a randomised controlled trial to lead to significant improvements in teaching quality and child development outcomes in language, numeracy and social-emotional development. Professor Siraj will discuss the findings from this programme and wider lessons to improve practice and child outcomes.
