Katharine Selby

Katharine Selby is a first year PhD student. Her research explores how children’s right to play can be supported in displacement camps, drawing together developmental and humanitarian perspectives. She is particularly interested in play’s role in fostering resilience and wellbeing in crisis contexts.

Katharine holds master’s degrees in Developmental and Therapeutic Play from Swansea University and in Education and International Development from the University of London. Before moving into research, Katharine worked as a teacher, which inspired her initial enthusiasm for all things related to play. Her work aims to ensure that displaced children’s voices are elevated in discussions of how to support their right to play in crisis and conflict.
